Living and working in Ibiza: housing, jobs and paperwork
Living in Ibiza all year round is possible, but it pays to arrive with a plan. The hard part is not work, which is plentiful in season, but housing: there are few year-round rentals and prices are among the highest in Spain. In return the island gives you nature ten minutes away, safety, public healthcare, short distances and a community of people from all over the world. This section is written for anyone weighing it up, and for anyone who already has a ticket.
The four guides:
- Living in Ibiza year round: the good and the hard parts, the monthly cost of living, how the island changes in winter, schools, languages and how it compares with Mallorca.
- Working in Ibiza: when hiring happens, the most wanted jobs, the Balearic hospitality wage agreement, fixed seasonal contracts and the paperwork if you come from the UK.
- Renting in Ibiza: indicative prices by area, when and where to look, the scams that keep coming back, the legal deposit and public support.
- Moving to Ibiza: the paperwork in order, from registering at the town hall to the NIE, the health card and the resident discount.
Three figures to give you an idea, from October 2026: a room in a shared flat costs from about €700 to more than €1,200 a month, and a year-round flat rarely goes below €1,500; hospitality hires mainly between January and March; and being registered as a resident gives you a 75% discount on flights and ferries to mainland Spain and between the islands. The advice repeated most by people who arrived years ago: never pay a deposit without seeing the place and signing a contract. And for a social life beyond work, the blog explains how to make friends in Ibiza.

Frequently asked questions
Is it expensive to live in Ibiza?
Yes, mainly because of housing. Year-round rentals are scarce and in October 2026 a room in a shared flat cost from about €700 to more than €1,200 a month. Groceries and services also cost a little more than on the mainland. What helps most is a stable home and using the resident discounts.
When should I look for a seasonal job in Ibiza?
Between January and March, when hotels, restaurants and leisure groups post vacancies and finalise their teams, often with video interviews. In April there are still options if you are already on the island. From June it is mostly cover jobs, and accommodation becomes much harder to find.
