Ibiza transport: how to get around the island
Getting around Ibiza changed in 2026. On 1 April a brand-new bus network started: one operator, a renewed fleet and more than sixty routes identified by letter (T, A, P, U, N, D and AERO). Most guides online still talk about the old route numbers, so here is the current picture, checked this season.
What to read, depending on your trip:
- Just landed? Ibiza airport to your hotel covers the five AERO bus lines, typical taxi fares by destination and what to do if you arrive in the middle of the night.
- Not planning to drive? Getting around Ibiza without a car explains which areas are well connected, the water taxis between beaches, cycling, and three sample car-free days.
- Planning routes? Ibiza buses route by route: what each letter means, fares, the four-day pass, the Discobus and the winter timetable.
- For nights out and short hops, taxis in Ibiza: official fares, apps, the Uber question and why finding a cab at 6am in August is so hard.
- Hiring wheels? Car and scooter hire in Ibiza: the summer vehicle cap, prices by season, parking and what to check before you sign.
Three numbers to start with: a bus ticket costs €1.70 to €2.60 paying by card, and there is a €25 pass for four days; a taxi from the airport to Ibiza Town is around €17-22; and between 1 June and 30 September the island caps the number of vehicles on its roads, with 14,000 hire cars a day allowed in 2026. Travelling with others? In the app you can find or offer a shared car ride and split the cost.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to get around Ibiza?
It depends on where you stay. From Ibiza Town, San Antonio or Santa Eulalia the bus reaches most places, with beach buses in season and night buses at weekends. For the rural north and remote coves a car makes sense, and for getting back at night, a taxi or the summer Discobus.
Do I need to hire a car in Ibiza?
Not always. If you stay in one of the main towns and stick to beaches with a bus, you can manage without. You will want one if you stay in the countryside or plan to explore the north. Bear in mind the June to September vehicle cap and that August hire prices soar.
