Ibiza traditions and festivals: village fiestas, folk dance and history
Ibiza's traditions are not kept in a museum: they happen in the square of each village church on its saint's day. Every parish has its fiesta, with mass, a procession, ball pagès folk dancing and doughnuts with country wine, and the calendar covers the whole year, from Sant Antoni Abat on 17 January to Santa Gertrudis on 16 November, with the Festa des Vi Pagès wine festival in Sant Mateu in December. They are free and open to everyone, and apart from the four or five big ones, almost only locals go.
Four guides in this section:
- To see which village is celebrating while you are here, the village festivals calendar, month by month, with what happens on the day and where each year's programme is published.
- Coming in summer? Ibiza's summer fiestas: the Night of Sant Joan, the Carmen, Santa Maria and Sant Ciriac sea processions and celebrations in Ibiza Town, and the Sant Bartomeu fireworks, with how to get there and back.
- To understand what you see in the square, ball pagès: the dances, the flute and drum, the costume with its silver and gold jewellery, and where to watch, such as Thursdays in July and August in Sant Miquel.
- And for the reasons behind it all, Ibiza's history and heritage: from the Phoenicians to the 1999 UNESCO listing, with the fortified churches, the traditional farmhouse and the museums you can visit.
A note for the whole section: the saint's day does not move, but the events often shift to the weekend and the times change every year. The dates we give were checked against the town halls' official 2026 programmes; check the current year's before you go. Want to go with others? In the app you can create a plan or find a shared ride, because in the inland villages parking is the hardest part of the night.

Yes, all year round. In winter there are Sant Antoni Abat (17 January), Santa Agnès (21 January), Santa Eulàlia (12 February) and Sant Josep (19 March); in autumn, Sant Miquel, Santa Teresa in es Cubells, Sant Rafel, Sant Carles and Santa Gertrudis.
