Ibiza towns and villages: the five municipalities and what to see
Ibiza is split into five municipalities, and each one groups several parishes: small villages that grew up around a whitewashed church, named after its saint and celebrating a fiesta on that saint's day. That is why Sant Miquel or Sant Llorenç have no town hall of their own: they belong to Sant Joan. Use this table as a map (population from the 2025 register, rounded):
| Municipality | Residents | Towns and parishes | What to read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eivissa (Ibiza Town) | 55,300 | Dalt Vila, La Marina, sa Penya, Figueretes | Things to do in Ibiza Town |
| Santa Eulària des Riu | 42,500 | Santa Eulària, Sant Carles, Santa Gertrudis, Jesús, Puig d'en Valls | Santa Eulalia |
| Sant Josep de sa Talaia | 29,800 | Sant Josep, Sant Agustí, Sant Jordi, Sant Francesc, es Cubells | Villages worth visiting |
| Sant Antoni de Portmany | 29,100 | Sant Antoni, Sant Rafel, Sant Mateu, Santa Agnès | San Antonio |
| Sant Joan de Labritja | 7,000 | Sant Joan, Sant Miquel, Sant Llorenç, Sant Vicent | Villages worth visiting |
How to use this section:
- With a day off the beach, start with the Ibiza villages worth visiting: twelve inland villages one by one, with their church, their fiesta and a driving route that links them.
- Heading to the capital? The Ibiza Town and Dalt Vila guide walks you through the walled old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, with free museums, a one-day route and where to park.
- Staying on the west coast? Read San Antonio: the sunset bay, the West End rules and the town that remains when summer leaves.
- Travelling as a family or after calm, Santa Eulalia covers the Puig de Missa, the river, the east coast coves and the Punta Arabí and Las Dalias markets.
The inland villages are also the best winter plan: their bars and restaurants live off locals and open all year. Each fiesta date is in the village festivals calendar, and to get from one village to the next there is the app's shared car rides.

Frequently asked questions
How many towns and municipalities does Ibiza have?
Ibiza has five municipalities: Eivissa (Ibiza Town), Santa Eulària des Riu, Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja. Within them are around twenty parishes, which are the villages, such as Santa Gertrudis, Sant Miquel, Sant Carles or es Cubells, each named after the saint of its church.
What is the prettiest village in Ibiza?
There is no single answer. Santa Gertrudis is the liveliest, with a pedestrian square and terraces; Sant Agustí des Vedrà the most picturesque, with white houses on a hilltop; Sant Miquel has the most striking church, with frescoes; and es Cubells the best sea views. Beyond the villages, Dalt Vila is a must.
