Best time to visit Ibiza: the year month by month
The best time to visit Ibiza, for most people, is June or September: beach heat, a pleasant sea and the whole island open, with fewer crowds than July and August. May and October are the way to save without giving up the beach. From November to March: calm, walks and low prices, but much is closed.
There's no perfect month for everyone. If you're coming to dance, you need the clubs open; if you want quiet coves, the exact opposite; and if you want to walk among almond blossom, you have to come when half the island is shut. What there is, though, is a fairly predictable calendar, and knowing it saves you money and disappointment.
Below is the whole year in one table, with official weather data, followed by recommendations by type of trip.

Weather: AEMET (Spain's weather agency) climate normals at Ibiza airport, 1981-2010 (days with 1 mm or more of rain, rounded). Sea: approximate averages from satellite data. Price: relative comparison of accommodation between months, not an actual rate.
Three facts help you read the table. First, the sea lags behind the air: in May it's T-shirt weather, but the water is still cold for many; in October it's the other way round. Second, rain is concentrated between September and December, often as short, intense storms. And third, Ibiza gets little rain: about 413 litres per square metre a year, spread over barely 45 days.
High season in Ibiza: when it starts and ends
The tourist season has no official date, but it moves within very clear limits:
- Late March and April: coastal hotels and restaurants reopen. Easter brings the first visitors and, at the end of April, the clubs' first opening weekends (24-26 April in 2026).
- 1 May: lifeguards start on many beaches in Sant Josep and Santa Eulalia, and the fire danger season begins, banning fires in the countryside until 15 October.
- 1 June to 30 September: the full summer bus timetable, with the disco bus and all beach routes (some already run in May and October, less often), and the daily vehicle cap: if you're bringing your car by ferry, check on Ibiza Circular whether you need authorisation.
- Late September and the first weeks of October: club closing parties (the last ones around 12 October in 2026).
- November to March: most hotels and many beach restaurants are closed. The island is still alive, but on a residents' scale.
For partying
If the clubs are the reason for your trip, what matters is the club calendar.
- May and June: the first weeks of the season have strong line-ups, fewer crowds and lower accommodation prices than high summer. June is a good balance.
- July and August: the most parties per night and the most people going out. Maximum atmosphere, maximum prices.
- Late September and early October: the closings are a phenomenon in themselves, with long, packed farewell parties. Our blog covers them in Ibiza closing parties.
From November to March the big clubs are closed, although there's nightlife on a smaller scale (bars, concerts, one-off parties). Venues, tickets and prices are in our Ibiza clubs guide, and which party is on each night in the app's club line-up grid.
For beaches and calm
The winning combination is June and the second half of September. Both have a sea ready for swimming without a second thought, all services open and far less pressure than high summer.
- June: very long days (the sun sets around 21:20) and vegetation still green. The water is a little cooler early in the month.
- September: the sea is at its best, around 25°C, and the crowds drift away from mid-month. There may be the odd stormy day.
- October: if you're happy swimming in a sea of around 23°C and accept that some beach bars close, it's wonderful. The light is gorgeous and the coves almost yours. Our blog has more on Ibiza in October.
- May: perfect for sunbathing, strolling and eating outdoors, but a sea at 18-19°C isn't for everyone.

For families
With school-age children, the dates are usually set for you. Even so, there are differences:
- Late June and early July: the start of the Spanish holidays (and before most UK schools break up), the sea already warm and fewer people than in August.
- August: it works, but means early starts for the beaches and booking everything well ahead.
- Easter, May and October: if your children are small and you're not tied to the school calendar, these are lovely months for strolling, markets and visiting caves or the aquarium, with a beach for paddling even if the water's cool.
Areas, quiet beaches and things to do with children are in Ibiza with kids.
For hiking and culture
Walking in Ibiza at midday in July is a bad idea. The island is best on foot from late January to May and from October to November.
- January and February: the almond blossom in the Santa Agnès and Sant Mateu valleys; we explain it in Ibiza's almond blossom.
- March to May: green fields, flowers, temperatures of 17 to 23°C and empty paths. The best time for hiking trails in Ibiza.
- May: the Eivissa Medieval fair fills Dalt Vila over a long weekend (7-10 May in 2026, though rain forced the opening to be postponed to the 8th). And on the first Sunday in May (the 3rd in 2026), Santa Eulalia's big fiesta, with ball pagès folk dancing and a parade of old carts; it's covered in Ibiza village festivals.
- October and November: mild temperatures, good light for photography, and museums and monuments without queues.
There are sporting events outside summer too, such as the Santa Eulària Ibiza Marathon, held on 18 April in 2026.
For saving money
Accommodation prices track demand almost to the millimetre. In August 2026, the average hotel room rate in Ibiza and Formentera was €285.70 a night, according to IBESTAT's hotel indicators. Outside summer, the same room can cost considerably less, although far fewer are open.
- Cheapest: November to March, with the trade-off that many hotels, beach restaurants and beach clubs are closed and ferries and direct flights are reduced.
- Best value for what you get: May and the second half of October. Mild warmth, the island up and running and rates well below the peak.
- Most expensive: mid-July to the end of August, and any weekend with a big event.
Other tricks: avoid the weeks of the biggest openings and closings if you're not going, look at midweek flights and book your car early. There's a full breakdown in how much a trip to Ibiza costs and thirty tips in Ibiza on a budget.
Off season: what you need to know
Coming between November and March has a lot going for it: residents, peaceful villages, almond blossom, winter sun with highs of 15-17°C and low prices. But go with realistic expectations:
- Many coastal hotels, beach restaurants and beach clubs close.
- The beach bus routes and the disco bus stop running; the trunk routes and airport buses carry on.
- It rains more, especially from October to December, and on some days the wind makes boat crossings rougher.
- You can go to the beach for a walk and, on good days, to sunbathe, but swimming is for the brave from December to April.
