How to meet people in Ibiza (when you know nobody)

Ibiza gets millions of visitors a year, and yet it is entirely possible to spend a week here without talking to anyone who is not charging you for something. It happens all the time: you arrive alone, or with one friend, and the island shrinks to a hotel pool and two nights out. The good news is that Ibiza is one of the easiest places on earth to meet people — if you know where to stand.

The plan is the excuse, not the goal

Rule one: stop trying to "meet people" in the abstract. Nobody connects in a vacuum — people connect while doing something. A volleyball game at Playa d'en Bossa, a sunset walk up to the Es Vedrà viewpoint, a boat to Formentera, a 7am yoga class at Benirràs. The activity gives you something to talk about, a reason to be there, and a natural excuse to come back tomorrow.

There is an island in winter too

From November to April Ibiza settles down to about 160,000 residents and a completely different social life: hiking, long lunches, village markets, small gigs.
